CLOTH DOLL-MAKING

This workshop lends itself to smaller groups of adults, or children as a party gathering or day retreat.  What is our relationship to dolls, and how much can we see a part of ourselves in the doll we create?  Most often, we do not know where we are going in this process until we have created the whole being.

There is joy in the childlike nature of this workshop which gives us a taste of that playful part of us that wants to emerge.  Susan uses muslin as the basis for the body which has been precut and partially sewn so that the participants can focus on making the dolls their own. You will stuff the cloth forms with batting, draw a face and other physical features, and make simple clothes from templates and fabrics, provided by Susan..

There will be a sewing machine in the studio with which Susan can use to assist, yet the focus of giving life to these dolls is through the handiwork. Thread, buttons, fabric swatches, fabric paint and markers will be provided. The use of glue guns will be supervised. Susan needs at least 6 weeks notice for a doll-making retreat to prepare materials to facilitate ease with the age group doing the workshop.
