Begin by connecting to your drawing surface with pencil and pastel shapes and colors. Scraping and smudging the pastels is an optional way to further explore this medium.

When the drawing asks for it, there are a variety of textures to add to the surface of this artwork, taking your drawing to a more sculptural level. Tissue paper, wall-paper, wood mosaics, newspaper, and fabric scraps give you many options to explore. Your drawing takes on a tactile life of its own. Some collage offerings are pastel and tissue paper alone, and others will include other more varied materials and/or magazine clippings.
